Our reputation is intact!

Branson, MO

Because we'd been in SC, GA & AL without rain (granted, it was only 2 days!!), I was beginning to think our streak was broken.  Luckily for the people of Missouri, it wasn't.

This morning, after a quick breakfast, and a check-in with our managers, and yet another meet and greet (how will we remember all their names??), we took a ride.  (Thank goodness I can read a map!!)  We found the grocery store, the veterinarian, a little of downtown (that was accidental), the fish hatchery, a surprise beach & park - very nice, clean, and calm looking, though they do warn the lake is 48-50* at all times.  Came back to the camper at noon and our badges were ready, so that got us on the Duck!  We set out with some billowy clouds in the sky and then the breeze kicked up.  By the time we actually got ON the duck, the storm was brewing, big time.  A couple of lightning strikes at the edge of town and thunder to go with.  Of course, the sign said, NO REFUNDS, and since it is a DUCK, they don't let the rain stop 'em.  I was a bit worried about the lightning, when we were in a metal vehicle, on a lake, but the Captain never turned back or cut us short.

In fact, we paddled around in front of the fountains during their show and he even let several of the young 'uns pilot the Duck.  They all had fun (except for one) and grandparents got to take lots of pics.  By the time we got back to the Landing, my GOD, the bottom had fallen out.  Several times!!!  We waited a few minutes till the downpour slacked up some and made a dash for it.  Wasn't long before I was hydroplaning (like, 2 steps!), so off came the flippies.  Then down came the drops once again.  We hadn't even made it halfway across the parking lot before we were soaked.  Poor Sunny, she had to have been frightened.

HAHAHA, when we finally DID make it back to the camper, ole Sunny was fast asleep on the sofa and never even heard us come in.  She didn't lift her head until I called her name.  Then she sorta exploded in her usual way and she could hardly contain herself.  Thankfully, she did contain her piddle till she got outside.  I guess being partially deaf has its good side - you cannot hear the thunder that used to scare you.

We hadn't been back too long when Sherrell came by with our work schedule.  With the upcoming weekend, it's all hands on deck, trained or not.  We hope we won't disappoint her, and we'll try our best.  We hope we won't be trying her patience at the same time.  They are the nicest people — always looking out to make sure everyone is happy and has what they need.  Sherrell has even spent many hours documenting procedures and processes for new workampers — this may be "just a campground" to the city, but she has true pride and ownership, and we are really glad to start being productive employees.

Dick is scoping out caches now, so I think that may be on tomorrow's agenda.  That'll really be a good way to see what the locals think is important and it may help us find our way around the back roads.  I just hope that others see our NC plates, and know to stay back the requisite 200 feet!

Check out the fire & water show slides I've posted on PhotoBucket.  You can get to them from Our Photo Albums page.  Robert, Sunny's with me on the dock, and visiting the Quilt Shop.  And Staples, when you have as many bites as I do, "all over" about covers it!!    And remember, you can't trust ALL the websites!!!  (You CAN trust this one - do NOT buy a Thermos grill-to-go, unless you buy it from us!!)

Y'all take care, and keep dancing (we do miss that!!).

See y'all later!!
