On the road again

Well, obviously, there's been a change of plans! You know we were going to spend the winter in Branson, MO, co-hosting the park in the absence of the "real" managers. We were looking forward to working with and for Preston, a paid city employee. Weren't really sure what we were gonna be doing, but we knew it was gonna be fun.
Dick's mom's health took a turn for the worse, though, so we decided maybe we should be somewhere closer to the East coast, so that we could get to her quicker if need be. So, we regretfully turned in our "notice," and bid farewell Sunday night. We had a Roast and Toast, Goodbye Gala, complete with campfire and caroling (when the horse & carriage came by, we sang "We Wish You a Merry Christmas!" (I'm sure they thought we were nuts.)
We roasted weinies and marshmallows and drank hot cocoa and icey margaritas. Gene got his magic stick (a copper pipe filled with rubber hose) and threw it into the roaring fire. In no time, we had beautiful blue & green flames!! Eventually, it got too cold and too late so we had to call it a night.
Yesterday (Monday) we pulled out around 9 am and hit the road. After quite a bit of deliberation and discussion, along with some Mapquest (thanks, Gene!) programming, we decided to just go out the way we had come in originally. Down I65, to I40 and over to Memphis, TN. Turns out that's a MUCH easier pull in cooler weather. I had marked the maps on the way in, too, so we knew where to expect long, hard hills, and we knew how long & hard they'd be. Not so bad, after all, and what a relief!!! Transmission held its own, and nooooo problems. At least none we know of!!
We stayed in Heth, AR, last night, at a former KOA, hooked next to a Super 8 motel and 24-hr Citgo and T/A Travel Center. Lemme tell ya something....DON'T EVER STAY THERE! Puts that 3-times-a-day train to SHAME. Eventually, I got to sleep, but not for long.....suffice it to say, 24-hours means just that.
We left there about 8 am, and hit West Memphis around 9:30. We THOUGHT we'd avoid the morning rush hour. I dunno if we did or not, but, geepers, there was a lot of traffic. And that bridge!!! It didn't get any lower or shorter!!! But, somehow, it DID seem to get narrower!! How's that happen, anyway? And the wreck on the other side sure didn't help matters much. But, we got through it safely, thank you God & Dick, and with Betty's good directions, made it to Harvest, AL without further issue. (We are 13' 2" tall, so we fit well under the 13' 11" bridge!!)
I'm not sure what's on the agenda for the next couple of days, but I do know we are bound for a job interview in Tallahassee, FL, on Nov 27. There, Bill is going to check us out for a volunteer position at his 8 parks in the area. He's looking for help for the summer. After that, we head to Ed, in Bradenton, FL, where we plan to camp-host in Lake Manatee State Park for the winter. Who am I kidding!!?? Did I say WE???? HAHAHAHA!! I believe it's really only just gonna be DICK! He got the call, so, I'm just going along for the ride, this time! All I gotta do is cook, clean & take care of him & Sunny. Sounds like I'm in for a fun time. I could sure get used to this life!!
I guess wintering in Florida now makes us official snowbirds. What a life!!
Love to all!!

Terrific! Ya can't hide talent, fer sure!! We miss y'all too -- and we miss dancing to your great calling! Who are you planning to pick up?? Does that mean there's a caller quit, or another club forming? Whatever, we're thrilled for you! Work hard, party harder, and keep those happy toes a-tapping! (Thanks for the feedback!! Nice to know someone's still looking!!)
