And so the saga continues
For those of you trying to follow our tracks on a map, today we continued our job search along the Peace River, to the East of our current location. It was hard, knowing that diesel now costs upwards of 3.59/9 per gallon, but we had to bit the bullet and hit the trails. We traveled about 45 miles Southeast, to Arcadia and found a couple of parks we really liked and a couple more we really didn't. Somehow, I think we have moved past the ATV & beer stage of our lives. The residents of these parks, however, were stocked and ready to party HARD.
We saw tables and tables holding many, many bottles of liquor, and it seemed every camper had two or three youngsters running around, plus 3-4 ATV's. Seems to me.....there's some potential for some very serious (not to mention, painful) physical damage.
We submitted our resumes at the two nice places and then turned North. Who would have thought there were so many cows in Florida!!?? If they were not growing oranges, they were grazing cattle. And it seemed that they ALL had a baby!! I guess that's the result of all that warm weather we had back in the fall. (We read a geocache description the other day was funny - lady says she placed the cache in honor of her kids' birthdays - Sept 23 & Sept 24, darned Christmas parties!! I thought that was pretty funny, after I figured it out!)
Saw lots of big birds, too, and that was neat. Along the way, gave ole Amy G. a call. It was great to hear her voice, and get filled in on all the doin's and goin's on back at the ole farmhouse. Hello to all that care!
Oh gosh, we just passed our turnoff. See what trouble you can get into if you don't watch where someone else is driving??? One turn-around later, we are back on track, and imagine that - a Wal-mart! Way out here, in the middle of nowhere. We still can't get used to all the greenery and palm trees...everything is so very lush & verdent; it's really a nice change for us from all the buildings and grey of Winston. And since they passed the anti-smoking legislations, all the restaurants are smoke-free, some of the beaches are, too. And the roads are just so much cleaner. Oh sure, there are some areas that could really benefit from some curb-side attention (if only there was a curb!!), but for the most park, there's not a whole lot of roadside trash. It's nice to see some respect for the environment.
We got some bad news today - Carl, aka, Bubba (of Carl & Denise whom we met in Branson fame, and who lost his front tooth on the boneless ribs) has been very ill lately. We were scheduled to meet up with them for dinner somewhere in Tampa a couple weeks ago, but we both got the flu, and they didn't call. I got an email from Denise today saying that carl had been in & out of the VA, trying to figure out what was causing such severe stomach pains. He's got lots of tests scheduled now, so they're just taking things one day at a time. It'll be really nice to meet up with them again, but it'll be a LOT nicer if he just got well.
Well, diesel is now $3.79 at this town (Wauchula), so we know we won't be living here! Besides, my signal is getting weaker & weaker, and I know we're getting ready to get on a deserted road soon (the one back to camp!), so I'd better save & go!
Y'alll take care!! Stay warm & dry! (We're currently 74*)
Love ya!
