On the road again!
Good morning SUNDAY! Wow, what week/weekend it's been. I think we have hit every Wally-World between Perry and Winston, some way more than once....and JoAnn's Fabric has been visited at LEAST 4 (yes, FOUR) times. I have enough fabric and notions and thread now to keep me busy for several days. OK, weeks. I have projects coming out the yin-yang! Too bad I have to work tomorrow!!! And the forecast is for high 90's for the next few days off, so I'm sure we'll be having to visit the pool. Oh, good golly, we are listening to Sirrius (sp?) radio, and they are talking about a 97" snowfall in Buffalo, NY on this day in 1995. OMG, I just cannot imagine!! Nor would I even WANT to!!!
OK, on to Rebecca's wedding, which was actually the original and only original purpose of this entire trip! It was a beautiful and very personal ceremony, performed by one of our (hers, too) square dancing friends. He injected a lot of humor into the ceremony, and there was even a reading from the Velveteen Rabbit (about becoming real, and how it only happens with love, lots of love, and only after your hair is loved off, your joints are creakyand most of your stuffing has been squeezed out). It was so Rebecca! Of course, she was absolutely beautiful. (Sidebar: brick house is going over the overpass at the moment...yes, being moved down the road - what a sight)
I got lots of pictures, thanks to dear Hubby, who charged up the camera for me, and I'll be posting them on the website once I finish here. Probably be around Charlotte, by then, so hopefully, connections will be good. Ain't technology grand?? This car is even equipped with a built-in inverter, which is a good thing, since we deliberately chose not to bring ours. Why not, you ask? Because it was "just one more thing to carry." That's only funny if you could see the back of this car. It is LOADED to the gills!! (Well, what'dja expect??? We haven't been to Sam's Club in a couple of months!!) More about the wedding!!
It was an outdoor ceremony, and the weather cooperated nicely, with the sun shinely brightly. WAY brightly. It was as if God himself was smiling on us all, and giving His blessing to their union. The reception was held indoors, where it was cool (thank you very much!!!), and everything was very pretty and subtle. Buckets of hydrangea and roses graced the tables which were draped with sage green lace runners. Personalized M&M candies were at each place, and the porcelin couple on top of the wedding cake were dancing in a close embrace. After introductions and eating a generous spread (to include humongous and delicious strawberries for dippin in the chocolate fountain), there were several line dances (and the CHICKEN DANCE and Cotton-eyed Joe, even) then, of course, a couple of tips (square dancing). We gave them a hash-demo, Robert called & Steve danced with Rebecca. It was just like old tiimes, with us pulling a few shenanigans to rattle Robert. Of course,he never missed a beat, but what fun! Then he got several of the gathered friends up and he put two squares thru his Square Dance Intro 101. Judging by all the smiles and laughter, I think a good time was had by all.
Everything went smoothly and there were no surprises, unpleasant or otherwise. At least, none that we could see. If there had been any hitches (other than the intended one, of course), none of the guests appeared to notice!!! We had driven Connie & Bob over in our rental, and we returned back to their house, safe & sound. Of course, along the way, we had to stop at JoAnn's, because their sale was ongoing, and somehow, I hadn't remembered to purchase everything I'd need for my casserole coozie project. About 30 minutes and yet another $15 later, off we go again. Got home, changed into shorts all around, then off to the next meal. (Connie had cooked a huge spread for breakfast, so it was just a day of eats!!) We went out to Captain's Galley, a great seafood restaurant (NO, we were NOT hungry!) for a terrific meal of shrimp, fixed Cajun grilled, coconut/Key Lime dipped and just plain fried. YUM YUMs for the tum-tums!!! We tried to get the Key Lime dipping sauce recipe, and we were given one, but we do not think it's the REAL one. I'm sure Connie will have it figured out before our next visit tho!
It was great to see everyone and be so warmly welcomed everywhere we went. Our hosts, Staples & Tim and Connie & Bob were MOST gracious and hospitable, and we so appreciate all they did for us. It was sure kind of Roger & Carla to come down from the mountain, too, when they had JUST gone back up!! Just so they could treat us to dinner at our favorite, Olive Garden. We really enjoyed seeing & reconnecting with all our friends, but it really hit home just how isolating this new lifestyle can be. On the one hand, we are meeting tons of new friends, everywhere we go, but in a way, we are losing touch with the ones we already have collected. Good thing for email and phone service, which allows us to stay in contact and keep up with each other's lives.
I'm sure you're all waiting for the pics, so I guess I'd better get on it. The frog is our "pet" that adopted us on the first day we arrived in Perry. He sits up under our awning just about every night, and serenades us every morning. We can only hope he's still there when we get back, as we have tucked our awning back up while we were away. (We've seen several that have been torn from their camper walls, due to unexpected wind gusts, and we didn't want to take any chances.) Diana & Jack were kind enough to offer to go get Sunny-bunny from the vet/kennel today, knowing we wouldn't be back in time, so we're (ok, *I* am) looking forward to seeing her again SOON. Her bloodwork shows her electrolytes back in balance, but her thyroid & blood pressure levels were still increased. Could be a result of increased kidney failure, tho out-of-whack thyroid could also cause symptoms we are seeing. Yep, you guessed it, meds are increased, hopefully that will take care of things for a while. Ok, for real now, gonna go post pics!!
For some — thanks for such a great weekend, it was GREAT to see you! For the others — thanks for watching things in our absence, see ya soon!!

Hey you guys. Great entry ... it helped us catch up to what you all did after you left us and we left town. I loved your pictures of Rebecca and Dedrick!!! Is that all you took? Tim and his "triathlon team" came in first of all the teams, so he is real happy. We had a good weekend at the cabin with about 9 people there - and one bathroom. We did fine in sharing, though. After the triathlon, we came back to the cabin and some took naps, then floated on tubes down the Cowpasture River, then ate dinner, then played bocce (you know how to play that game, dontcha Karin). After dark we sat around and had a big song fest (singing what people could remember of "show tunes"). I wish we could have been in two places at once, but since we couldn't, at least we got to visit with you all for a while. Keep us posted on your adventures. Love ya - Staples and Tim
