And the rest of the story is....

Well, the fourth of July has come and gone, as have several violent (and some not-so-violent) storms.  Thankfully, no one has been injured and there has been no camper damage.  Others, unfortunately, cannot say the same.  Luckily for all the campers YOU know, this did NOT happen:

We got to visit with one of our new friends from Branson the other day — he stopped by here on his way out of Georgia.  It was great seeing him & catching up on all his happenings.  We really miss hanging out (does that date me, or what!!) with him & his wife, and we sincerely hope they both come this way again soon!!!

Not much else going on here...been kinda quiet, actually. We are more of a transient park (overnight stays, mostly) than a "destination" park, so our turnover has been critically hurt by the cost of fuel.  With more people traveling not so far, they can usually make their destination all in one day's drive.  Unless we get a local attraction & some stores close by, I  don't foresee much change in our population, either.  The closest town is 9 miles away, and it's not much of a town.  Holds a great vet, a branch office for our bank, a Kroger, a really, really crummy super-Walmart & a bunch of fast food places that are neither fast nor good food.  About the best thing we have going for kids here at the park is our pool.  I just hate sharing it, tho, 'cuz you know how I am about germs invading my personal space...

Dick finally got a new phone last week, and it's just like mine (except he's kept the RED faceplate on).  For anyone that has fallen victim to his battery, we sincerely apologize and beg your patience.  Try again, this one lets him talk till the cows come home!

Debbra & Donna - keep those jokes and outstanding pictures coming!  Just 'cuz I don't always respond doesn't mean I don't read 'em or appreciate 'em — I DO!!  Wachovians — keep your collective chins up, this too shall pass, and hopefully, you'll all come out ahead of the 8-ball.

Ken & Wendy - if you're reading this, hope your travels are safe & happy, and you've made many more friends along the way!

For those of you that are keeping up with her, Sunny is doing well, considering how old she is.  Her re-check reveals (to the tune of $250) that she is or has:
1.  old
2.  advancing kidney failure
3.  onset of Addison's disease
4.  an ear infection
5.  a vestibular infection
6.  had a stroke
7.  higher-than-normal blood pressure
8.  thyroid issues requiring an increase of her current meds
9.  or some combination of the above

If you are thinking, "well, that's the same thing she said a couple of months ago," YOU WIN!  Yeah, what it all boils down to is that she had some sort of episode, and for the total of $500 worth of testing, we still don't know why or what caused it.  Which is, I guess, why Dick was so concerned the other morning, when it appeared we'd have another doggie on our hands.

Sunny & I were taking our customary (5 am!!) walk-about, when up comes this adorable little Sheltie/Border Collie-type.  Fuzzy little thing!!!  At first, I thought it was a skunk, till I realized that the white stripe was really a collar of fur, rather than a stripe down the back!  (Remember, now, it's 5 am, and I'm still fuzzy myself!!)  Anyway, I could feel the dog's belly, and he/she appeared to be VERY well cared for.  Friendly little thing, too.  And immaculately groomed, even for having been out & about for Goodness knows how long.  So, Sunny & I walk till she's done her business, and then I set about figuring out what to do about the new pup.  I know she's not a pup, and I know *someone* is gonna miss her.  She couldn't get so well fed & groomed and be a street hound for long.  I also know that she's black & someone on HWY 26 will never see her, much less stop for her, if she takes a notion to go up that way.  Sooooooo, what are we to do??  I stumble around in the dark, in our camper, looking for an old collar or harness for her, so I can tie her up outside, but all I did was succeed in waking up Dick.  No harness, no collar.  I did find a bowl, so I got some water & food for the newbie, and boy, she ate like she hadn't eaten in a week.  Eventually Dick comes out to see what the heck I'm doing, and I can just imagine his dread.  He's gotta know where this is leading...and we cannot simply *abandon* her to the streets....

Luckily for us (him), about the time we decide to put Sunny's collar on the newbie and tie her up & go back to bed, along comes one of our campers, striding down the street....."Are you looking for a dog?" we ask.  His reply must have been music to Dick's ears!!!  Turns out, little Abby has escaped from a tent onsite, and she's been out since about 2 am!!!!!!  (I found out later, she was too tired to compete in her agility trials that day!!)  Oh well, easy come, easy go.  No more doggies for the Callanders.  At least, not this time!

Well, that's about all the news from Georgia.  Till next time, y'all take care.  Know that we love you and miss you!
