New location, new job, new finds
So, we arrived last Monday afternoon, just as expected, around 3 pm. I hope you've already looked at all the pictures I posted up on Photoshop, via the links on Our Photo Albums page. I've started using Photoshop because that's what popped up when I plugged in the new camera & asked for download. I'm sure if I had read the directions, I could have installed and used the Cannon software that came with, but, you know me....and you know I don't usually read the directions. At least not first, or not unless I have a problem I cannot click my way out of.
So, now that I've used Photoshop a few times, and organized the pictures all nice & pretty, do you think I even remember my username and/or password on Photobucket? HA! No. So, Photoshop it is. Until I forget that, and have to create some other account on some other server. That's what happened with YouTube. Apparently, I had an account and was able to post a video, but when I went back, it flipped over to some other account, with a different username. Do ya think I noticed? No. At least, not in time enough to stop before loading 2-3 more videos. You'd *think* they would have a way to fix such errors, but, nope, all they have is a FAQ explaining that they cannot combine accounts. So, apparently, I am not the first to goof!!
Back to topic.....we arrived Monday, after a white-knuckle, but safe, ride thru Houston. The owners had reserved us a 50 amp site, as we'd requested, but, lo & behold, we were too big for that site. A new site was arranged & we were able to slip in without further issue. Took us about 45 minutes to get all set up then we walked over to the office to talk to 'em, as discussed. Not there. Went over to the residence & knocked (lightly). No answer there, either, so we called it a night & got comfortable.
About 9 pm, the owner comes a-knockin' and talks to us for a bit. End result: we start working Tuesday morning, at 9 am!!!! And so it goes, for the next 3 days!! When we finally finished up working on Friday evening, after balancing & all, we were ready for some R & R!! We'd missed the Wednesday night dance, up in Rockport-Fulton, but we were able to get to the IGA (local grocery) before they closed. Yeah, we don't get out much, do we. On Sat., we were able to get down the island, to Mustang State Park, and NAS Corpus Christi. While there, we checked out the FamCamp, a couple of Walmarts, and the local HEB Plus (a cross between Fresh Market & Walmart). They really do have some people-moving road systems here!! Yesterday, we went the other way (north) to Aransas Pass & checked it out. We also dropped Monkey Around Purple in a cache under an old live oak. We taped his ferry boat ride over, and even got to see some dolphins! AP is kinda a town in serious decline; there were a couple of car dealerships closed up, the houses were in various states of disrepair, cars were old & broken down, and everything was kinda dirty. We did find a Dodge dealer (still in business), but in reviews, they are NOT good on service or sales.....so, plan B on repairing the windshield. Oh, didn't I mention that? We took a direct hit by rock up in Charlottesville one day, as a logging truck passed us. It (the rock) came right at Dick and he dodged, thankfully keeping control of the wheel, so we didn't hit the ditch. But, caaarrrack! Big ole hole. First day here, the heat got to it, and the hole now has a big crack running up to the roof & halfway down to the wipers.
Today, off again, but we decided to call the insurance & see about getting the windshield replaced. They said someone'd be coming out between 1 and 5 today, so, we waited. And waited. Eventually, they called & said the windshield in the parts warehouse was cracked, so we passed on that one, will wait for the next one (hopefully tomorrow). If the wind dies down some, the waves will calm and maybe we can hit the beach & enjoy the warm water. Yesterday, it was warm, but just way too rough for me to be comfortable. Ok, so I'm a beach sissy.
Anyway, go check out the new pics & video, and travel safe! Y'all take care,
love,
k
