"Moving On" defined
Well, time for Plan B. As some of you may know, Port Aransas is a LOT windier than we'd ever imagined. If there was such a thing as "more than constantly," well, that's what the wind blows here. MORE than constantly....and it's not a gentle breeze, either. I mean, it BLOWS. And the way our trailer is positioned, it's really hard to get the door open. In or out - it's difficult. Day or night — it's difficult. Dick even had to make a wind-shield for the grill, so that he could cook!! Even with that shield, we're having trouble getting the temperature just right, so food is generally over- or under-cooked. Bless his heart, he sure tries hard, but the wind sure makes it difficult.
Oh, and along with the wind comes the sand & dirt & salt. We even purchased a BRUTE (thanks for the recommendation Jack!!) pressure washer to make things easier & quicker. We figured if we're gonna be washing the truck & trailer every 3rd day, might as well get the right tools. We likened it to buying that big ole leaf sucker in Carolina...what a WONDERful time/labor-saver that was, and we are counting on this machine to be the same!! So far, it's turned out well - a job that took over 3 hours each of the first couple of times, has now been whittled down to about 45 minutes!! Happy day!!!!! Leaves plenty of time for FUN!!
Soooooooo......given the wind, dirt, salt & rust (real & potential), we have chosen to move on. We informed the park owners the other day, and they weren't really thrilled by our news. I think they were a bit disappointed, actually. I know Judy was (she's the newly appointed "manager" and I know she was counting on me to share the office load). The owners are trying to get back to Montana, to take care of some personal issues that need immediate & personal attention, but.....we gotta take care of ourselves, too. Just getting out the door has become difficult & painful (for me, due to that stinkin' hip problem), and our propane tank has started to rust. We are not ready to compromise the structural integrity of the camper, so we're gonna scoot.
We heard from Mike & Brandi, former co-workers from Lake Manatee State Park, in Bradenton FL, and they are managing a wonderful bed & breakfast in a neat little town called Cat Springs, TX. They're managing the ranch and looking for some help, but, unfortunately, we'd just made our reservations for a campground up the road a little bit. We had just "resigned" ourselves to a summer off (NOT working, and actual retirement!!) so we had to decline that offer too. Oh well, it's a dirty job, but someone's gotta do it. Might as well be us, huh?
Oh my gosh...as I write this, the TV show, Bridezillas, is on in the background....but, good GOLLY, some of those young ladies are simply b-yotches of the FIRST CLASS. Well, perhaps "class" is the wrong word, since none of them really seem to have any. I can only hope that one day, they will grow up & get their priorities straight. I mean, good gravy, there are sick, injured & starving people all over the WORLD, and all they can worry about are broken toenails & whether or not their hubby-to-be is appropriately sucking up to them at every moment! One of 'em is concerned that her rehearsal venue has burnt down due to the wildfires...and lemme tell ya - she's NOT worried about the woods or the critters or firefighter injuries....she's worried about the fact that she cannot have a rehearsal that shows how much money she's spent. Ugh. I'm embarrassed for these girls.
Well, since tomorrow is still a workday, I guess I'd better sign off & shower up. (It's hot & sweaty here) Y'all take care!!
