What the heck??

Ok, here's your darned technology update!!!  I spent almost 3 hours writing that last blog entry, and when I went to go publish it, whatdoyaknow??  I was OFFLINE!!  Thank you, On the Beach WiFi.  And, to make matters worse, I couldn't get BACK online, and my whole entry was simply GONE.  Oh, was I discouraged.  And the next time I was online, and opened this blog manager, it told me that a copy had been auto-saved, and if I clicked SAVE, it would open it for me, but if I clicked DISCARD, of course, it would.  So, OF COURSE I clicked save.  Why wouldn't I jump at the chance to recover my work?  And so, what do you think happened?  Sonofagun opened up a brand new, blank page.  I was so upset I closed the window, and that's the last I messed with it until today.

So, that was almost 3 weeks ago, and today, I figured, what the heck, I'll just jump in to my "Happy Fourth of July, here's what we're doing now" message, and daggumed if the darned thing didn't open up with "you have an auto-saved entry...if you wish to keep it, click SAVE..."  So I did!  And the previous entry was presented.  Quick as a wink, that puppy was PUBLISHED.  And now you know how things have been going for us these last couple of weeks.

I was not sewing, my hip hurt constantly, we didn't dance, and every other day or so, we had to wash everything down, inside & out.  Plus, the surf was so rough down at our part of the beach, I couldn't stand up against it.  Heck, I could barely stand up on the beach, much less in the surf.  So, we often found ourselves traveling 20-25 miles away, to a different beach & different (calmer) water.  Of course, fuel is still not free (nor real cheap), so we tried to combine those excursions with shopping or a medical visit.  But, there was always the cleaning to do in our off hours.  Not to mention, we were already beginning to find rust spots, sooooooooo, we turned in our 2-week notice at the park.  Well, unfortnately for us, the park owner had just purchased a butt-load of supplies to complete certain projects that had been on the planning board for some time.  Who knows why the "official" maintenance man was not tasked, but he wasn't.  So, when we turned in our notice, of course there was the private discussion about "what can we do to make you stay," and when that didn't work, there was the "what can you do to help us complete our projects?"discussion.  Naturally, we felt like crumb-buns, so we agreed to have Dick work every day, all day, until everything was done.  During the couple of days we had off during that time, we scouted out a new place to live that would be more to our liking.

And, boy, did we luck out!  A few miles north, and back on the mainland, we found a cozy little park in the town of Fulton, a few blocks from the Harbor area, and sheltered by many live oaks & pines.  This park also offers free WiFi, cable TV, plus a sparkling clean swimming pool & 2 hot tubs.  In addition, the roads are paved, so we can ride our bikes.  Actually, if we exit the back gate, we can ride our bikes on back roads all the way into town & Wally-world, Ace Hardware & HEB (the grocery store).  Oh, and RESTAURANTS!  The first one we tried was China A - all you can eat buffet.  MMMMHHHM!  Shrimpies a dozen different ways, plus steamed crablegs, oysters, salad, and all the usual Chinese food.  FOR UNDER TEN BUCKS EACH!!  We've been back, already, too!

And, on Thursday nights, there's a pot-luck (think sales of casserole cozies), and today, the fourth, the park provided burgers, dogs & fixin's for all the residents - we just brought sides & appetites.  Everyone in the park is friendly & welcoming, even more so than the residents of the park in Venice.  They have all told us that summers were nice, but winter is when all the fun really begins.  As in Venice, activities abound & you won't be bored or have a dull moment.  All this for less than $250 a month!!  That's just my speed!  And no longer do we have to wake at 5:30 or 6 am to be at work, outside, by 7 am.  No more 12 hour work days (unless we WANT to), either.  Cannot say as I miss that!

So, we've been here since Monday, have eaten at 2 potlucks, been shopping at the local quilt store, sewed up 2 casserole cozies AND a tote for utensils & plates, and have been swimming every day but one.  Oh, and the truck has only been washed ONCE (and waxed) in all that time.  We are putting off doing the camper only because it's such a chore, but I feel in my bones, the time is nearing.  Probably all too quickly.  It really needs doing.

Back to technology, though - we STILL have not come up with a viable solution for my 64-bit issue, so if any of you techies know a way to run 32-bit Vista or XP simultaneously with 64-bit, I'm all ears!!

So, until next time, y'all take care!  Stay safe & cool!
